Each month from April to October, the Sacramento Valley Garden
Railroad Society holds general meetings in members’ homes.
These meetings are generally on the second Saturday of the month
from 11A to 1P, unless the hosts choose another day. This also
provides some time after the meeting for open houses in the same
vicinity.
The 2024 SVGRS clinics will be held on February 17,
2024, at the Rancho Cordova United Methodist Church located at
2101 Zinfandel Drive west of Sunrise. Coffee and pastries
will be served at 9:00am, with the first clinic starting at
9:15am.
As of this update, there will be six layouts open in the Redding
Area on June 19, and twenty-six in the Sacramento Valley and
Foothills June 20-22, with five more in the Reno, NV area on
Monday, June 23!
We’re planning a BBQ dinner and modular train set up on Saturday
with the Sacramento Live Steamers Club in Rancho Cordova.
And there’s the ice cream social and 1:1 train ride in a 25
passenger gas driven maintenance of way vehicle and a 15
passenger trailer (carriage) in Folsom Friday evening June
20.
Since about 1994, when the National Garden Railway Convention is
east of the Rockies, a Garden Railroad Club on the West Coast
puts on the “West Coast Regional Meet.” This is a
non-convention: no hotel, no vendor hall, no model contest, no
clinics/workshops, etc.
It’s basically an intense weekend of layout tours, with an
informal dinner/banquet on Saturday night, and perhaps some
ride-on train rides.
No, I’m not talking about the Giants going to the World Series,
though the way they are playing is certainly surprising.
I’m talking about the Club helping out the Make-A-Wish Foundation
give a nine year old boy his wish of a train layout. It came
about from a phone call to me from Tricia Litts at the
Make-A-Wish Foundation, asking if a model train layout could be
built outdoors and what it might involve.
